Woodwork is my specialty. Planking, sistering frames, decking, trim, repair or new construction (cabinets, tables, shelving... your imagination is the only limit). From the caulking on the garboard plank, to backing or rudder blocks, critical pieces to a complete new wooden boat build, I delight in working wood.
Want to update the galley? Overhaul the head? Do the ribs in that old wood boat need to be sistered? Has the rudder shelf on the catamaran delaminated and must be rebuilt? Or maybe the Beetle Cat needs new canvass? I have over a decade of experience helping clients improve their boats, repair damages and create spaces they can enjoy. Big boats and small boats, wood boats and fiberglass.
AC/DC electrical, electronics installation and upgrade, bilge pumps, AIS, GPS, VHF, transducers and other items. Each boat has different needs and all clients have different wants, but industry standards dictate installation considerations like 10% or 3% voltage drop, identifying circuits and their voltage, or properly sizing the fuse for the load. I can help you find solutions to your marine electrical issues.
From start to finish, the head system must work properly to ensure a pleasant experience onboard your vessel. Toilets (electric, peddle flush, gravity, composting), toilet parts, sanitation hose replacement, holding tanks and level indicators, "Waste" deck plates, overboard discharge pumps, lockout switches, thru-hulls (new and replacement) and the like. I'm here to help your system run smoothly and odor free.
Most boats have some modicum of wood, whether the bird's eye maple I encountered on a 1946 Chris Craft, or the holly I used to make new matching hatches on a Little Harbor 38'. Mahogany, oak, douglas fir, cedar and others, like teak.
Teak can be varnished, painted, oiled, left to weather or a specialty finish can be applied, like AwlWood. Decks, cockpits, eyebrows, grab rails combings and frames! The list of items teak is used for is endless. I have scraped many feet of marine finish (varnish, etc) and applied countless coats of different finishes. As a general rule, follow the manufacturer's instructions and plan ahead.
Is the old teak squishy or has the grain split and left a giant splinter? Have the fastener heads shown through? Maybe its time to take up the old material and install something new? This can be an extensive process but the result adds years of life to your boat and appreciation from your feet.
Who doesn't want to stay cool? Whether it's your food or your boat's interior, air conditioning and refrigeration are an important part of boating.
